THE DATE

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DATE OF THIS EVENT HAS CHANGED TO 17TH MAY IN ORDER TO ACCOMMODATE OUR SPECIAL SPEAKER WHO WILL FLY IN FROM AUSTRALIA.

THE TALK

Vince Ungvary will show how early European explorers came overland and across the seas to 'discover' China. Starting with Marco Polo, these explorers returned to Europe with fabulous stories of the immense wealth and strange customs of the people in China. In their journeys, they mapped China in incredible detail, creating beautiful & accurate charts. The talk will conclude with the differences between Chinese & Western mapping of Shanghai.

Vince will be displaying some stunning original antique maps of Asia and China from the 1600’s-1700’s as well old maps of pre-1949 Shanghai and other Chinese cities which will be available for attendees to view close-up and purchase after the talk.
