DR. SEX AND THE BOOK "SEX HISTORIES" with Yushu Geng

The August Long Lunch will feature a delegation from the Hong Kong Savage Club, and we will return to the excellent 1515 Chophouse & Bar inside the Jing'an Shangri-La Hotel.  Given that we have a visiting delegation, our speaker will talk about something unique to our city:  "Dr. Sex and the book 'Sex Histories': Scandal and Censorship in 1920s Shanghai" presented by Dr. Yushu Geng.

Yushu Geng is a cultural historian of modern China and a Postdoctoral Fellow at NYU Shanghai. She received her BA in History and MA in Modern History from Durham University and obtained an MPhil in Gender Studies and a PhD in History from the University of Cambridge. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, she worked as a postdoc at Trinity College Dublin between 2021 and 2023. Her PhD project looks at the circulation and regulation of Chinese-language obscene publications in Republican China and colonial Singapore.
