David Carnegie was the grandson of George, a Captain of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Life Guards, who took refuge in Gothenburg after the Battle of Culloden. In 1836 David bought a sugar refinery and a porter brewery. The colours of the Porter Drinkers’ tartan are inspired by the dark, full-bodied potion, with yellow hinting at a little sweetness and red the distinct “tang” drinkers recognise as the hallmark of a fine porter.
